How to get Started

To access Google analytics go to www.google.com/analytics.

Set up a Google account – If you do not already have a Google account you will need to set up an account to continue -click on the link ―Sign-up Now‖ and complete the requested information.

Once your have established an account, login. Click on the ―Sign Up‖ button and you are on your way. It is important to note before proceeding that you must be the owner of the website that you are wishing to track or have the permission of the website owner.

Blog sites such as WordPress often will have resources that will allow you to place code on your particular Blog page(s).
Setup Google Analytics – You will be directed to a serious of input forms that will ultimately provide you the coding to produce tracking data for your website.

You can receive more detailed information by clicking on various menu items. Detailed information will include specifics like what browser your visitors were using, by what means they accessed your page (directly, search engines, etc.), what keywords were used when accessing via a search. Google Analytics offers an area for users to establish goals to focus on specific areas of interest and particular campaigns.

As opposed to Google, the Urchin program uses your web server to record and store the data which have some pretty great advantages. Some of those advantages include the ability to hold to and check that data anytime you want, the data can be audited by an independent third party which doesn’t happen with the Google Program and it works behind a firewall. On the other hand the Google Analytic Program is maintenance free and much easier to implement if you are the type of person who is concerned about degree of difficulty with handling this program.

Tweeting, twittering, or whatever you want to call it has become one of the major ways that websites receive traffic. People will chit-chat about whatever and do it wherever and whenever (as Twitter has proven over and over again). When Twitter started this form of marketing was purely organic. ―Check out this cool website!‖ Used to the earnest cry from one friend to the other. KISS Your Mobile Site

KISS is a recognizable acronym. But in case you aren’t familiar it usually stands for Keep It Simple Stupid. Or any variation of keeping things simple. The same concept applies to your site. While mobile technology continues to grow it’s not yet up to the level of service as a desktop or laptop.

Don’t get me wrong it’s phenomenal. But it’s best to keep your mobile site simple.

Here are three tips you want to keep in mind when creating your mobile site.

  1. Keep the branding consistent. Same colors, fonts, menu layout, header or as close to your main site as possible. People need to feel confident that your site is what they are looking at on their phone.
  2. Don’t enable everything you have available on your main site. For example if you have several free sign up options on your sidebar you may want to only have one or none of those available on the site. Some html coding won’t show up on a mobile device.
  3. Put your best above the rest. What is you biggest converter? What is your best source of content? How can they get in touch with you? You want to make sure whatever is your BEST is what your audience is seeing on their mobile device.

Don’t make designing your mobile site harder than it has to be. We as humans seem to have a predisposition for that sometimes. I know I do at least.

This is a question that is being asked across all industries, levels, and countries. More and more people are getting online with a mobile device. Whether that is a tablet or phone the point is that they don’t do the same thing as your standard PC; they are limited.

So ask yourself what kind of experience your audience is having if your site isn’t mobile ready.

How do you do this you ask…We have a test!

Invite someone you trust…someone who is your potential market to sit with you. Have them look at the site on a mobile phone. While doing this ask them to say what they are thinking as they go through it. Have them say everything they are thinking, from what they think about colors to if it’s easy to see the font…etc.

You may have to get them going by asking questions. Your friend and colleagues usually don’t want to hurt your feelings so will shy from it. But once you get them going there is usually no stopping.

Make sure to take good notes or record their observations. Then once you’ve done this make sure to thank them by taking them out for wine or a nice dinner.  Next take some time to process what they said.

Sleep on it for the night. Then come back and listen to it again. It may be hard but you need to know what others are seeing. It could be costing you some clients.

Mobile marketing is the use of smartphones and tablets to promote businesses. It’s just another avenue that has evolved with technology in the marketing field. There are several different ways to use mobile marketing to promote your business. We are going to give you three today.

  1. Mobile Friendly Website: A website that is not mobile enabled will be hard to view and navigate if it’s not customized for a mobile device. Users will have to squint or pinch the screen to make it larger. Then they have to drag it from one side to the other to see it in its entirety. Most people aren’t going to do that and you may have just lost a sell.
  2. Apps: Having an app that provides a service while giving people the option to receive push notifications is a great way to market your business.  Even if they opt out of push notifications you still control the information they receive. Use it to your advantage and give them something they need while creating visibility for yourself.
  3. Email Marketing: While most wouldn’t think that email marketing was mobile marketing…it is. Majority of people ready emails via their phone initially. Even if they wait until later to respond they still read them on their smartphone. When providing email content make sure it is easily read on a mobile phone.

Actually Facebook didn’t invent paper paper but they have created a new mobile media platform known as Paper.

What is Paper?

  • It’s described as Stories from Facebook.

Why did Facebook create Paper?

  • Facebook is sick of losing people to sites like Reddit, Buzzfeed, and UPworthy. So they created Paper.

Why should businesses care about Paper?

  • Any business that is using blogging or content creation as a marketing strategy should be beyond thrilled. Facebook just declared that they want content in the biggest way you can imagine. They’ve dedicated a whole mobile media outlet to it!

How can businesses best utilize Paper?

  • Focus on video (it autoplays in the feed) and long-form content (long-form content is mobile-optimized in the new Paper app).
  • Include imagery, because the Facebook Paper app highlights the story you’re reading at the top of each channel with an image beautifully displayed.

While the tech community is beyond thrilled at the new media platform. It will stand the real test of success if those that use the platform accept it. However, we are still too early to tell.

When considering your website it can be hard to look at it with the eyes of scrutiny. However, try taking it through this comparison. Think it in terms of a lover.  No really give it a try.  Because when someone looks at your site (landing page) for the first time. They were either referred by SEO, social media, or business card. Either way you are showing them what YOU are all about.

  1. Go to your landing page.
  2. Now check out your date! Starting with the header. Like a date you start from the top and work your down. How is your dates face and hair? Are they attractive? How does it make you feel? Do you want to go and check out the rest.
  3. If you do now let’s check out the first thing that people NOTICE after your header and that’s the content below your navigation bar. Whatever that is it should be IMPORTANT.  It should give something away but acquires an email address first is one example. Or it could be a short snappy explanation of your business or perhaps even a special you are running your page. Another thing that this part does is it gives an idea of what kind of personality of YOU aka your date.
  4. So now, if you are really into your date you are going to see how the body is right? I mean let’s be serious. If that’s the case this is where they are going to check out the rest of your site.
  5. Get that call back number! Make sure that you have a way for people to CONTACT YOU! (form or email) CONNECT WITH YOU! (social media accounts easily viewable)
